Remarkable Seniors: Epilepsy Doesn’t Deter Graduates Career Goal

Heidi Duke didn’t attend traditional high school like most students.  Instead, she attended St Johns Virtual School in St. Augustine, Fl.

She was diagnosed with epilepsy after having a seizure on a ride at Disney World.  While she was diagnosed as a sophmore in high school, her and her parents believe she’s had epilepsy much longer.  Heidi has absence seizures.  Her parents said there were many times they thought she was just daydreaming.  Now they believe it could have been seizures all along.

This month, Heidi graduated from high school with straight A’s.  She is attending the University of North Florida this fall. She will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.
