Melanie Griffith revealed she has been battling epilepsy for over 20 years. However, it wasn’t diagnosed until she had 2 tonic-clonic seizures in 2011 on a yacht outside of Cannes. She was taken to the hospital after each one, but didn’t have an EEG until after the second. Upon her return to the U.S. she was diagnosed with epilepsy.
“They didn’t know what it was. The last two that I had I was on a boat outside of Cannes — on a big yacht — and I was extremely stressed out. Every seizure that I had was at a point when I was extremely stressed.”
Over the course of 20 years no doctor mentioned epilepsy nor tested for it as her symptoms persisted. She said doctors would dismiss her symptoms as “an anomaly.”
Melanie’s seizures occurred during times of extreme stress. She has been seizure free for 4 years now and credits this to reducing her stress levels and an AED (anti-seizure medication).
